During the summer season car ferries leave from Piombino to Portoferraio –  Elba’s main town – almost every hour. There are also daily ferries from Cavo and Rio Marina. The shipping companies are Toremar, Moby Lines, Corsica Ferries and Blu Navy.

 

The crossing from Piombino to Portoferraio takes one hour (30 minutes by Corsica Ferries), the crossing from Piombino to Cavo takes 35 minutes, and to Rio Marina it takes 45 minutes. A hydrofoil service (no cars), which arrives only in Portoferraio and Cavo, takes 35 minutes.

Mappa Isola d'Elba

By car:

  • From the North of Italy: from Milano take the A1 motorway, change to the A15 at Parma Ovest to join the A12 Genova-Livorno exit later at Rosignano. Continue on dual-carriageway as far as right-hand sign to “Venturina/Isola d’Elba”. Continue on the main road until you reach Piombino Marittima/Portoferraio.
  • From the North-East: Take the A1 motorway Bologna-Firenze-Pisa-Livorno exit later at Rosignano and continue as above. Alternatively: take the S.G.C. (not a motorway but a very good road) Firenze-Pisa-Livorno, exit at Firenze Scandicci and follow the main road as far as Collesalvetti. At Collesalvetti re-join the motorway and at Rosignano dual carriageway as above down to Piombino.
  • From the South: Take the A12 Roma-Grosseto, continue on the main road “the Aurelia”: exit at Venturina-Isola d’Elba then follow as above for Piombino.

By plane:

  • During the summer the Elba Airport in Marina di Campo is connected directly by some flights by Silverair from the following airports: Pisa, Florence, Milano, Bologna, Lugano (CH). https://www.flightsandtravels.ch/en/
  • From international airports as Pisa, Florence or Rome you can reach Piombino by rental car, train or shuttle busses. International flights to Pisa, Florence or Rome can be checked on https://www.tui.co.uk/flight/italy-flights

By train:

  • The train station of Piombino Marittima is 50 meters close to the ferries departures. You cal also choose the arrival station of Campiglia Martittima, where more trains arrive, and which is linked to Piombino Marittima with a shuttle-bus.
